Responsible and Ethical Conduct at MIT

August 5, 2010

MIT has a strong commitment to responsible and ethical conduct across all parts of the Institute and in all its activities and operations. This is reflected in many of our policies and procedures. The federal government is now requiring that recipients of federal contracts have an explicit, written code of business conduct, that we inform the community of this code, and that we have a means of discovering any improper conduct in connection with the management of research activities under these government contracts. This new requirement is being implemented through two new Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clauses: the Contractor Code of Business Ethics and Conduct (52.203-13) and the Display of Hotline Poster(s) (52.203-14) that will be added to any appropriate new awards.

MIT’s written policy on Responsible and Ethical Conduct is posted at http://web.mit.edu/conduct . We will soon be announcing this broadly to the MIT community. In the meantime, OSP will alert Principal Investigators as these new terms are included in awards, and ask that Principal Investigators inform those supported on these projects of MIT’s new policy.

We appreciate your cooperation. Please contact your OSP representative or Michelle Christy with any questions.
